Today Oracle has released a major update for VirtualBox which, in fact, passes to the version 7.0.10.

For those unfamiliar with this tool, it is free software that allows you to use other operating systems on your computer. For example, it is possible to spin Ubuntu on a system Windows (and viceversa).

This is a series of improvements that make the software more stable, as well as solving some graphical bugs in the context of Windows 11 and to increase the performance on macOS. Also worth noting is a fix patch regarding crashes related to Trusted Platform Module (TPM) 1.2.

What’s new in VirtualBox 7.0.10

Going deeper than the update proposed by Oracle with VirtualBox 7.0.10 here is the complete list with the release notes:

  • OCI: Introduced generic improvements;
  • VMM: Fixed slow performance starting with macOS Ventura 13.3 (bug#21563, bug#21596);
  • VMM: Fixed a bug when browsing page tables when running nested VMs that caused the drop log to flood (Intel host only, bug#21551);

  • Guest Control/VBoxManage: Fixed parameter “–ignore-orphaned-processes”;
  • Guest Control/VBoxManage: Fixed the behavior of how argument 0 handling works for a started guest process: now it is possible to specify it explicitly with the new “–arg0” option (this will effectively restore the behavior of previous VirtualBox versions);
  • Audio: Using PulseAudio backend when pipewire-pulse is running instead of reverting to ALSA (bug #21575);
  • NAT: Adjusted UDP proxy timeout from range 18-21 to 21-24 to respect the expected timeout of 20 seconds (bug#21560);
  • Host Linux: Added initial support for Indirect Branch Tracking (bug #21435);
  • Host Linux: Added initial support for kernel 6.5 (warning: guest additions do not yet support kernel 6.5);
  • Solaris Host: Introduced general improvements in the installer area;
  • Host e Guest Linux: Improved condition checking when kernel modules need to be signed;
  • Host e Guest Linux: Added initial support for RHEL 8.8 (bug #21692), 8.9 (bug #21621);
  • Add Guest Linux: Fixed kernel modules being rebuilt on every boot when the guest system did not have X11 installed;
  • Add Guest Linux: Added initial support for kernel 6.4;
  • Add Guest Linux: Fixed the issue when reloading the vboxvideo module caused a kernel panic in some guests (bug #21740);
  • Add Linux Guest: Introduced general improvements in the installer area;
  • Windows guest additions: Introduced general improvements in the graphics driver area.

The new version of the software is available, with free download, through the official website.
