The Public Register of Oppositions is a public service to which all users can access for free. It aims to protect people from the use of personal data for commercial and marketing purposes.
Who registers for the RPO declares that it does not authorize anyone to use its telephone numberlandline and mobile, and the mailing address to send advertising material, both on paper and in the form of telemarketing.
It is a service particularly appreciated by citizens, but not only. Operators also have an advantage in using it, as they can easily identify those who are not interested in discovering promotions and news and avoiding sanctions. They can, therefore, register for the service and consult the list. By operator we mean any person who, being the owner of the processing of personal data, intends to carry out marketing or market research activities through telephone calls or paper mail.
The service was activated in 2010with a Decree of the President of the Republic (178/2010) and has been operational since 2011. Today it is currently active, despite having undergone changes to allow it to keep up with the times and respond to the new needs of citizens.
All national telephone numbers, both landline and mobile, and the postal addresses of those who make the request to no longer receive advertising telemarketing calls and paper material can be registered in the Public Opposition Register.
To avoid paper advertising, your address must be present in public telephone directories. In this case the registration is also extended to advertising received by post. As regards telephone contacts, all private numbers can be registered with the RPOeven those not present in a public list.
It is a very powerful tool, because it manages to cancel the consents that were given before registration in the Objections Register. From the exact moment you sign up, within 15 days you will no longer be able to be the target of certain advertising campaigns. Any calls to users for commercial purposes, whether from human operators or bots, are considered illegal.
In 2022 the public register of oppositions was subject to an important reform, which made it even more effective. All landline numbers that are also present in the public telephone directory are automatically included there. The possibility of registering mobile phones for free has also been provided automatic cancellation of all permissions given prior to registration. However, it has no effect on consents that are granted after registration with the RPO.
Public register of oppositions, how to register and how it works
Registering in the public opposition register is simpleas well as managing registration, renewal, any selective revocation and cancellation.
The inscription, which it is for a fixed term and must be renewed after expiration, can be done by telephone, via the web or by sending an email. If you want to register online you need to connect to the official website of the service and enter in the area dedicated to citizens and click subscribe. Log in without authentication or with SPID. Up to five telephone numbers can be registered in the public opposition register
If you want sign up over the phone, enter the toll-free number of the service for landline users or the one intended for mobile phones for other users. An automatic responder guides the user to sign up, but in case of difficulty you can ask to speak to a human operator.
Who wants use email, all you have to do is send the RPO Registration form, found on the official website, to the address indicated. Registration is processed in approximately one business day, but becomes effective within 15 days.
How to manage registration in the public register of oppositions

Renewal, revocation, and cancellation are usually handled within one business daybut it takes 15 days before they become effective.
