The reasons for a mobile phone or tablet that won’t turn on can be many and, often, they can be minor problems.

For example, if The battery is dead for obvious reasons it will not be possible to turn on the device. Trivially just put it in charge to get your device back up and running. The problem could also be with the charging port which does not make good contact with the charger and, in that case, just clean it gently with a cotton swab and the smartphone should go back to charging normally.

In other cases it could be a problem with the phone power button which may be broken and, therefore, not respond well to commands.

The problems that prevent a smartphone from turning on could be many but the most common is certainly a flat battery.

Again, it could be a screen problem. Maybe after a bad fall something might have broken inside the phone.

In the latter two cases, it will be necessary to go to a specialist or buy a new device, especially if it is old enough and not worth fixing.

  • 2. Force restart an Android phone

In some not too rare cases, the operating system could have crashed and the phone may no longer respond to any commands.

For this, most Android devices allow a forced restart pressing the power button for 20 or 30 seconds. In some cases, such as Samsung devices, you can force restart by holding down i Volume Down and Power buttons for a few seconds.

Forcing a device to restart fixes any problems in the operating system that may be limiting the normal operation of the phone.

Of course in this specific case we are not talking about a problem with the power button or the device itself but it mainly concerns Android which for various reasons could be blocked. In this case, forcing a restart could fix what is essentially a software problem and, even if it’s a minor thing, it could be a wake-up call that something is wrong with your smartphone and needs to be checked.

Generally with these procedures the phone will work normally again, but it is a good idea to back up the data and keep an eye out for any “oddities”.

  • 3. How to tell if the screen is broken

As already mentioned, one of the causes of a phone that won’t turn on could be the screen that doesn’t work.

To test this eventuality, you can first try with a forced restart which will restart the phone even if it is blocked.

If the smartphone screen is broken, there is little the user can do and, after having ascertained the fault, he must send the phone for assistance.

If even doing so the device continues to stay off, you can try tap the Volume Up key to turn up the sounds on your smartphone or, much more simply, call your number and if the phone rings but the screen remains black, unfortunately we will need to call a technician.

After a fall or too much use the power button may stop working. If this is the case, the intervention of a technician may be necessary.

The third option is to “remap” the device keys. A procedure which consists in assigning different functions to the various physical keys of the smartphone, nothing too complex is meant and there are several programs created specifically for this function, however there will be a need for root permissions which, in addition to being illegal, could also compromise the integrity of the operating system and, therefore, is not a recommended choice.

Restoring the factory settings will delete data and applications from your smartphone and could solve the most serious software problems but, obviously, not those deriving from the hardware.

Naturally this procedure fixes any software problems more or less serious but in fact it can do nothing against the breakage of one or more components or more serious problems.

It is good to remember that this procedure is perhaps the most extreme attempt to “save the life” of a smartphone but it is also advisable to remember that such a device is not eternal and, in the event of more or less serious problems, the only thing you can do is ask for the help of a technician or buy a new one smartphones.
