Windows 11 runs on just 176MB of RAM - the surprising test

At the end of 2022, the developer and YouTuber NTDev amazed everyone by starting Windows 7 with a 5 MHz CPU and 128 MB of RAM memory, in a nice experiment that pushed one of the most famous, appreciated and most successful operating systems from Microsoft to the limit. However, he wanted to engage in a fight with Windows 11 to show what many consider impossible due to the minimum requirements imposed by the Redmond giant. With a new video, therefore, he showed that Windows 11 also runs on 176MB of RAMabout one twentieth of the minimum recommended by the manufacturer.

Does Windows 11 work even with very little RAM?

The video NTDev uploaded to YouTube clearly shows the complexity of this experiment, as i drivers have been reduced to the bare minimum. With some errors already in the boot phase and a command prompt-based interface, the use is really complex for any user. The system operates exclusively via CMD and not on Explorer, deactivated to reduce the consumption of system resources.

To achieve this result NTDev explained that it was necessary to proceed with the classic method trial and errorthat is to say “trial and error”, looking for absolutely necessary and non-necessary drivers and services, so that the latter could vanish from the system. If nothing else, Windows 11 with 176 MB of RAM also allows you to perform some multi-tasking, but without surprises: running a program is practically impossible.

In short, for a simple almost “playful” test it is certainly intriguing. In practice, however, it is a useless project considering the basis of daily use of a computer today.
