Google continues to focus onartificial intelligence, for all (or almost) its services. After the news of an Assistant upgrade, it arrives – this time on the way official – confirmation by Big G of a new feature currently being tested. Leveraging AI, it will create summaries of videos on YouTubeso the user can give a quick read and decide whether to watch the content or not.
AI on YouTube to automatically generate video summaries
From the support page we learn that the summaries generated by the artificial intelligence are visible only to a limited number of users and appear on the display and search pages. As Google explains, the AI feature is used to provide a quick overview of a video but the “summaries” will not replace the descriptions, which are written by the creators themselves. The question is, will the user be able to distinguish the two types of content?
At the moment no screenshots of the new YouTube feature have been shared so it is not possible to take a look at a possible change to the platform interface. Perhaps some will be used appropriate labels (as in the case of Instagram) to clearly indicate textual content written by artificial intelligence.
The one being tested is not an absolute novelty. In fact, there are already some AI-based tools that are able to generate video summaries (Clipnote.ai, Skipit.ai and so on), but according to some creators, they are not all that reliable. Also because they have difficulty with slightly longer videos.
Talking about Clipnote.ai, for example, a Reddit user reported quite serious shortcomings and inaccuracies. The experience, it says, it was “horrible”.
Auto-generated summaries are just the latest AI-related news on YouTube. In fact, quizzes for educational videos and dubbing in multiple languages are already available.
