Jack Dorsey slams the door and leaves Bluesky

With a decision that surprised many, Jack Dorsey – American entrepreneur and computer scientist -, known mainly for being the founder and former CEO of the social network Twitter, also left Bluesky.

By 2000, Dorsey had moved to California and founded a company that offered online software. It was then that he had the idea to create one microblogging platform where users could share short text messages. In 2006, together with Evan Williams and Biz Stone, Dorsey launched the social network Twitter, which quickly became extremely popular on a global scale.

Removed from the position of CEO of Twitter in 2008, he returned to the helm of the platform in 2015, trying to relaunch it by identifying methods to make it more profitable.

In addition to Twitter, Dorsey also founded Squarea company specialized in managing electronic payments via smartphone.

Dorsey abandoned Twitter following Elon Musk’s arrival in November 2021, announcing his historic resignation from his position as CEO.

Bluesky regrets Dorsey’s resignation

In 2019, when Dorsey was still helmsman of Twitter, he also presented the Bluesky project, the idea of a decentralized social network. In our in-depth study, we saw how Bluesky works and what its features are.

Bluesky has its roots in a open protocol, designed to put data back into the hands of users and give them greater control over it and their online interactions. The goal is to differentiate itself from other social networks by focusing on transparency, privacy and user autonomy, offering a more open and free alternative to the currently dominant centralized models.

With Jack’s departure, we are looking for a new member of the company’s board who shares our commitment to building a social network that puts people in control of their online experience“, we read in a post published by Bluesky.

CEO of Bluesky, as of 2021, remains at present Jay Graberengineer who worked on cryptocurrency Zcash as well as on the event planning site Happening.

Dorsey, whose net worth is estimated to be in the order of $4.4 billion by 2024, did not clarify the reasons for his farewell to Bluesky, a project in which he had believed so much. Last Saturday he limited himself to writing, once again on X, the following observation: “Don’t depend on companies to provide you with rights. Defend them yourselves using the technology of freedom“.
