In the wake of what has already been done by other streaming services, Netflix and Disney+ for example, Amazon also decides to include commercials on its platform that millions of users globally use to watch films, television series and even major sporting events. After its debut in the USA, the Europen version of Prime Video will also include the commercials, it’s now official.
Commercials are arriving on Prime Video: €1.99 per month more to remove them
Users of the boot are currently receiving a message via email regarding the new conditions of the streaming service. The advertisements, in a limited number, will appear on Amazon Prime Video on April 9th. «We’re contacting you to let you know if there’s something new about your experience on Prime Video. Starting April 9, 2024, Prime Video movies and TV series will include a limited number of advertisements. This innovation will allow us to continue investing in quality content and to increase these investments over time and consequently support the maintenance of the quality and quantity of the contents included in Prime Video», we read in the message.
But will watching content on Prime Video be like watching linear TV? In this regard, the Seattle giant is keen to point out that it “aims to have a significantly lower number of advertisements compared to linear television and other streaming services”. Another important point of the communication concerns the price: «there is no change to the current price of your Prime membership».
The change described above will also bring with it a new ad-free plan. This will have a additional cost of 1.99 euros per month. So, calculator in hand, from April 9, 2024, watching Amazon Prime Video without advertising will cost 6.98 euros per month (4,99€ + 1,99€).
