Apple would be thinking of a low-cost MacBook to respond to the success of Chromebooks

The interest of users in the Chromebook, laptop with Chrome OS operating system and an almost unbeatable value for money. The success of these products seems to have prompted Apple management to think of a new product, un MacBook low-cost able to compete with the aforementioned Chromebooks. But how much truth is there in this indiscretion?

Apple to conquer the educational sector with a low-cost MacBook

The rumor came a few hours ago from the Taiwanese editorial staff of DigiTimes, and has already rocked the entire community. After all, associating Apple with a product – a notebook, then – with a “lower” price is really difficult.

However, it is not a hypothesis to be dismissed so lightly, because the educational sector it has always been a point of reference for Apple and today it is (almost) dominated by Chromebooks. The launch window of the first low-cost MacBook in the history of the Cupertino giant could be there first half of 2024.

In terms of numbers, more than 13 million Chromebooks were shipped in 2019, and in subsequent years it went even better: more than 30 million in 2020 and more than 33 million in 2021, according to DigiTimes. These are figures that speak clearly and that confirm how laptops with Chrome OS have made inroads into the hearts of usersespecially in the educational field and during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Many schools have also thought about increasing the numbers, who have decided to invest their own funds on Chromebooks, and not on iPads as in the past.

This is the first time a low-cost MacBook rumor has been circulating, and the most reliable rumors in the industry (like Mark Gurman and Ming-Chi Kuo) still they have not had their say about it. In the coming months we will probably talk about it again, and in more detail.
