Over the last few hours, Meta has announced great news for its main messaging applications, namely for WhatsApp (regarding iOS and Desktop) and Messenger (regarding services for companies).

Starting from WhatsApp, in the past few hours several users have reported that they have viewed a pop-up with which they were warned that, from next 24 October, support for iPhones running iOS 10 and 11 would cease, as also confirmed by the official FAQ , which mentions iOS 12 as the first supported Apple mobile system. As a result, interested users will have to, if possible, update their iPhone to iOS 12 and, if impossible, change phones in order to continue using WhatsApp. The new measure essentially cuts out the owners of the iPhone 5 and iPhone 5C, while nothing changes for those who, having at least the iPhone 5S, 6, 6S, will already be able to switch to iOS 12.

PC users have also been affected by a change related to WhatsApp, with the arrival of the beta 2.2219.3 for the Desktop version of the famous messaging in green. Specifically, according to what WABetaInfo leakers report, the “Request account information” function, already introduced on Android and iOS as an adaptation to the rules of the European GDPR, has been implemented for a few days now for users who have downloaded this release. .

Thanks to the function in question, users will be able to request a “detailed report of certain information such as activity information, privacy settings, device details and content”, not including messages, to be accessed or transferred to another app . As specified by the message welcoming users who activate this function, the request for the report in question will be canceled if changes are made to the account such as deleting the same or changing the user’s telephone number.

Turning to Meta’s other great chat app, Messenger, during the “Conversations” conference for corporate messaging, the Menlo Park company confirmed a change of approach for Messenger. Previously, companies could message people only after they received a message from them, which they had to respond to within 24 hours. From 4 March 2020 it was established that it was possible to send promotional messages, but only in existing conversations. Now, however, Meta has declared that it is ready for recurring notifications, which will allow companies to send newsletters, updates on sales, promotions, etc: the news has already been offered to all companies that use Messenger within a period of free trial but, thereafter, it will be an optional new premium feature for which Meta intends to charge companies in the future.
