Artificial intelligence e journalism they are two worlds that, more and more, seem to be able to coexist.
The latest step forward in this sense is the agreement signed between Financial Times e OpenAI. The collaboration includes full access by ChatGPT to the databases of the well-known newspaper. From a purely practical point of view, users who will query the chatbot, summaries and quotes from the articles of that newspaper may be proposed, correlated by specific attribution. The contract between the two parties also includes a synergy regarding the creation of new AI-based tools.
It is not the first time that the Financial Times is open to collaborations in the context of this new technology. In fact, already last month the same newspaper launched a function based on generative AI, based on Claude Of Anthropic. The function in question, known as Ask FTallows users to more easily find specific information about articles published by the newspaper.
Collaboration between Financial Times and OpenAI: benefits for both parties
Despite this initiative, however, the newspaper does not seem to want to abandon “human” journalists. According to what was stated by John RiddingCEO of the Financial Times Group, it remains a priority that AI platforms pay to draw on material provided by the journalism sector and that, at the same time, it is necessary for these services to offer content from reliable sources.
OpenAI has already undertaken several collaborations with important names in the information sector. Among them, the agreement with the German publishing group stands out Axel Springer which, in the European context, is concerned with newspapers such as Bild e Welt. Me too’Associated Press has entered into an agreement with OpenAI through which the latter has access to a huge database of data to feed its own LLM.
Not all relationships are as friendly as those listed so far. A few months ago, for example, the cause of the New York Times compared to the creators of ChatGPT and another big player in the sector like Microsoft.
