With the increase in attention on eSports and gaming in general, it is becoming more and more a felt need to have excellent ad hoc monitors for video games: in this regard, new hardware proposals have just been announced by Asus and AOC.

Starting with Asus, the Taiwanese brand has announced a new high-performance monitor within its TUF Gaming series of gaming products: the ASUS TUF Gaming VG249QM1A measures 540.86 x 178.58 x 392.26 mm by 4, 2 kg and uses a 100 × 100 VESA mount that allows them to be mounted on the wall or on special arms. Technically, it offers a resolute 23.8-inch panel at 1920 × 1080 pixels which, being a Rapid IPS, provides excellent values for maximum brightness (350 nits) and contrast (1000: 1), but also excellent responsiveness ( 1 ms GtG) and a high refresh rate (270 Hz via overclock, with artifacts blocked via variable overdrive).

Discreet in color rendering (99% sRGB), respectful of sight (Ultra-Low Blue Light and Flicker-Free) thanks to the Shadow Boost function it improves visibility in dark scenes, while through the Extreme Low Motion Blur feature it copes with the phenomenon of motion blur: in increasing the fluidity of the game, synchronizing with the “beats” of the graphics card, it provides AMD’s FreeSync Premium and compatibility with Nvidia’s G-Sync.

There are also some other typical functions of the manufacturer: GameVisual, for example, allows you to switch on the fly from a set of settings to the top (eg shooter, cinema, races, strategies) depending on the current conditions and activities. , while the GamePlus is to be understood as a sort of “Swiss army knife” which, when activated, provides a plethora of tools, such as the frame counter, a stopwatch, a timer, the tool for aligning images or a viewfinder.

Adjustable in terms of support between -5 and 20 degrees, ASUS TUF Gaming VG249QM1A offers as ports the DisplayPort 1.2 for the 270 Hz refresh rate, two HDMI 2.0 and a 3.5 mm headphone jack. The audio is covered too, thanks to two speakers of 2W each.

Also from Taiwan, and precisely from AGON by AOC, comes a monitor capable of doing even better, namely the AGON PRO AG274QS (about 1200 euros). The latter, also awarded for design (red dot award), with non-existent or almost 3-sided bezels, adjustable RGB effects (Light FX) and projected AGON Pro logo, uses a 27 “Fast IPS panel resolved in QHD (a 2560 × 1440 pixels), with up to 600 nits of brightness (DisplayHDR 600 certification) for always well-lit scenes, 300 Hz refresh rate to see the enemy appear first in shooters, and response times of 0.5 ms MPRT and 1 ms GtG to hit it at the right time. Any stuttering and tearing phenomena are avoided thanks to the presence of AMD FreeSync Premium and Adaptive-Sync. In terms of audio, in this case there are two speakers of 5 W each optimized for DTS Audio.

Placed on a metal support adjustable not only with the orientation of the pin, but also in rotation, inclination and height, versatility is not lacking in the AGON PRO AG274QS monitor: thanks to the contribution of the G-Menu it allows you to adjust the lights, lower the blue light, set one of the game modes between FPS, RTS and racing games, etc, with other adjustments possible via joystick, or QuickSwitch disk controller for the OSD menu. Among the various ports, the product has a USB 3.2 Type-A poker with which to connect peripherals such as mice, keyboards, etc, and integrates support for headphones.
