GIGABYTE AORUS Gen5 12000 SSD: It's really super fast

GIGABYTE is raising the bar even further with the introduction of a new interface-based solid-state drive PCIe 5.0. L’SSD GIGABYTE AORUS Gen5 12000 is an internal storage solution that promises to be super fast, becoming a real point of reference in the data storage segment. The Taiwanese manufacturer had already offered a first glimpse of its future plans a few months ago but thesolid state drive AORUS Gen5 12000 reaches hitherto unknown heights.

The storage device in question uses the format M.2-2280now the main and almost unique in the world of SSDs thanks to the many advantages deriving from its compact size which allows it to be installed on both desktops and laptops.

What the new GIGABYTE AORUS Gen5 12000 SSD looks like

GIGABYTE’s newly unveiled AORUS Gen5 12000 SSD uses flash memory 3D NAND TLC at 232 levels with an integrated LPDDR4 cache. Comes with controller Phison PS5026-E26 8-channel for data rates exceeding 12GB/s and 11GB/s in sequential read and write respectively.

When the Phison controller was presented in May 2022, we talked about 12 GB/s (12,000 MB/s) as the maximum limit that can be reached by solid-state drives that use it. Here, after just over a year, GIGABYTE reaches that maximum threshold with one of its commercial products.

Phison confirmed that to support the performance of new SSDs based on its controller, it is essential to equip the data storage unit with an adequate cooling system. PCIe 5.0 SSD drives without a heatsink get too hot, they can activate the thermal throttling and stability and operation problems may occur.

Temperature control takes center stage with the solution Thermal Guard Extreme

To address the problem of temperatureAORUS Gen5 12000 is equipped with the thermal solution Thermal Guard Extreme. Based on the use of layers of aluminum e carbonit is not new because it is already used by the company to cool the chipsets of the most advanced GIGABYTE motherboards.

Users can optionally choose to use, as an alternative, i heat sinks usually included in modern motherboards.

GIGABYTE spokespersons assure that the 12GB/s performance they are not a chimera and indeed they are perfectly obtainable by keeping the temperatures at bay. The free application GCC (GIGABYTE Control Center) monitors in real time the operation of the SSD unit, its status, performance, temperature and capacity, also allowing direct firmware updating when updated versions are released.

GIGABYTE AORUS Gen5 12000 SSDs will be available in two flavors from 1 e 2 Terabytewith a five-year guarantee. The company has not yet indicated any retail price, even if the Gen5 arrived so far have maintained a price list similar to that of the previous generation, at the time of launch. It is to be expected that prices will fall as the big manufacturers (WD, Samsung, Kingston and Kioxia) put their respective proposals on the market, always based on the PCIe 5.0 interface.
