Google will invest 2 billion in OpenAI rival AI startup Anthropic

The race for the best artificial intelligence model continues and it is undoubtedly among the most active companies in the sector Google. The great American giant would have agreed to continue towards its goal, investing up to 2 billion dollars in a company that deals with AI development.

It’s about Anthropic, a startup that through one of its spokespersons confirmed what was initially just an indiscretion. In reality, Google had recently already invested the sum of 500 million dollars to subsidize its chosen rival OpenAI, the giant that gave life to ChatGPT. Now Mountain View has announced that they have agreed to add the additional figure of 1.5 billion, which will be released over time.

Google finances OpenAI’s rival, another billion and a half arrives for Anthropic

Google is already an investor in Anthropic and the new outlay would underline an increase in its efforts to compete even more with Microsoft, currently one of OpenAI’s main supporters.

However, another very important company could soon take over: it is Amazon. Jeff Bezos’ giant reportedly declared last month that it wanted to invest up to 4 billion dollars in Anthropic so as to compete with rivals dealing with artificial intelligence.

In Amazon’s quarterly report filed this week with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, the e-commerce site said it has already invested $1.25 billion in Anthropic, a sum that can be converted into shares. The total investment capacity would be completed with another tranche from 2.75 billion dollars.

It therefore promises to be a very interesting period regarding the development of artificial intelligence. There are two giants that will support Anthropic and it seems that the capital invested by both is more than satisfactory. The startup’s main goal is to compete with OpenAI and this step will be difficult to miss.
