1) Force restart your phone

If the phone is already blocked from starting, freezes on a specific screen or freezes after a few minutes of use we can try force restart to see if it recovers on its ownwithout further steps.

To proceed, press and hold the power button and the volume down button at the same time, until the phone restarts. At the next restart we verify that the phone has recovered and that it no longer has the freeze.

2) Free up storage space

If the phone freezes every time we download a new app or try to download a video from WhatsApp there could be a problem problem with storage space, not enough to download new data; usually a warning message appears but it is not certain that it will appear in time, especially if the phone crashes first.

To immediately free up memory on a Samsung phone, let’s take the path Settings -> Device and battery supportwe press on Storage space and we check which files or apps take up too much space by pressing on the individual categories present.

We delete as much space as possible, leaving at least 20% of residual space free from any data; to learn more we can read our guides on how to free up Android space on internal memory and on app to clean Android from useless and temporary files.

3) Use phone optimization

Always from the menu Device support (seen in the previous chapter) we can use a automatic optimization functioncapable of deleting useless data, emptying cache and recycle bin and also optimizing battery and RAM memory consumption.

To use this important function included in Samsung, let’s take the path again Settings -> Device and battery support and press the button Optimize now to start the phone optimization process; To complete the cleaning as best as possible, we recommend restarting after the process, so as to immediately obtain a truly optimized system.

4) Scan your phone for viruses

Few users know this but about Samsung A very powerful and effective virus scanner is included; if the block is caused by a malicious app or a hidden virus we can eliminate it without having to install an antivirus from the Google Play Store.

To use the integrated antivirus let’s take the path Settings -> Device and battery support -> Device protection and we press on Activate to benefit from antiviral control offered by McAfee.

A phone that suddenly freezes during use it could be a victim of some bug in the operating system or the Samsung launcher. In this case, searching for new updates can solve most problems, especially if Samsung has received enough reports of problems relating to sudden freezes.

To install Samsung updates let’s take the path Settings -> Device and battery support -> Software update and we press on Download and install to start searching for new updates.

We do not recommend leaving your phone in this mode even after finishing optimizations and cleaning: we will not receive notifications and the apps will not work correctly, especially those that require services that are always active in memory. To learn more we can read our guide on how to restart android in safe mode on every smartphone.

7) Reset phone to initial settings

If none of the above methods worked all that remains is to set your Samsung phone to its initial settingshoping this solves everything.

To proceed from the phone that starts up (and only crashes randomly) let’s take the path Settings -> About tabletpress down on Rigorous and finally we press on Factory data reset to start the recovery procedure.

If, however, the phone freezes at startup or on the Samsung logo, we will first have to enter recovery mode and then delete the phone’s data and cache, as seen in the guides on how to fix Android if your phone or tablet won’t start come on what to do if your android phone keeps restarting.
