With the Mesh network we will obtain the best benefits in exploiting the 5 GHz Wi-Fi network in more than two rooms: it will be enough to place the Mesh modules at the right distance from each other (the signal must be strong between the various devices) to finally create a large 5 GHz Mesh network that covers practically every corner of the house.

If we have a small house or less than 80 square meters it is useless to spend all this money on the Mesh network but we can focus on a simpler 5 GHz Wi-Fi repeaterso as to quickly and easily expand the modem’s wireless network only towards the part of the house that is still “discovered” or where the 5 GHz signal arrives very weak.

To make the most of Mesh networks we can focus on one of the following devices, all suitable for use in cascade as we need greater coverage for our 5 GHz Wi-Fi network.

If we don’t have all this money to spend, we can expand the 5 GHz Wi-Fi network at home using a simple Wi-Fi repeater, which will attach to the main network and expand it without using Mesh. Obviously the performance will be lower than a Mesh network, but at least we will be able to connect without problems and still obtain good speed.

TP-Link Wi-Fi Repeater

TP-Link RE700X One of the best Wi-Fi repeaters that we can place in the home is the TP-Link RE700X.

This small device is placed in an electrical socket, connects via WPS button to the network of our modem and is immediately ready to amplify the signal: the password for access to the new network is identical to the one generated by the modem, as is the network name (EXT is added to the modem network name). This repeater can handle both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz signals, although we strongly recommend connecting it to your modem’s 5 GHz network and configuring its signal to work in dual band (i.e. split the band into 2, 4 GHz and 5 GHz), so you can connect a large number of distant devices.

To increase Internet coverage we will necessarily have to amplify the Wi-Fi network of our modemthe only one that allows all our devices to travel at maximum speed while avoiding interference.

For large homes we can create a Wi-Fi Mesh networkwhile for smaller homes or for those who want to save money, convenient and practical Wi-Fi repeaters are available (however less fast and precise than the Mesh network).
