EaseUS is a company specializing in the development of software for backup, data management and information recovery. Drawing inspiration from the data collected during the operation of its famous software on end-user systems (among the best known are Data Recovery Wizard, Partition Master, All Backup e All PCTrans), EaseUS has compiled an accurate report on hard drives and Most popular SSDs globally.
The managers of the company have found that the number of users Owners of SSDs is on the rise, much more than users of USB hard drives and external media. Compared to traditional hard drives, solid state drives are smaller in size with more than half of individuals preferring them capacity between 128 and 512 GB.
The USB drive most popular ones, on the other hand, usually have a capacity between 256 GB and 1 TB. The “removable” nature of these devices leads users to store large files, HD videos, photos and more.
The most popular interface of all remains to this day SATA while NVMe follows at around 18%. As we have seen in the differences between eMMC, UFS and SSD, NVMe based drives PCIe 4.0 interface they can max out at around 7,500 MB/s in terms of data transfer speeds. The PCIe 5.0 drives reach in the best cases up to 16 GB/s (16,000 MB/s) keeping in mind that some models, without an adequate system of heat dissipation, have presented some stability problems. Phison admitted this by saying that some PCIe 5.0 SSDs can enable the thermal throttling if not equipped with a cooling mechanism.
As for the capacity of the hard drives magnetomechanical, most users choose models with at least 512 GB – 1 TB: they are about 41% of the total.
What are the most popular SSDs
According to the updated statistics shared by EaseUS, the branded SSD drives Kingston would be the most widely used on a global scale. In particular, the two most popular models are Kingston A400 with 240 and 480 GB capacity.
Following Samsung it is the second most popular brand. There are four of the most popular models:
- Samsung 980 PRO da 1 TB
- Samsung 860 EVO yes 500 GB
- Samsung 970 EVO Plus since 1 TB
- Samsung 980 PRO da 2 TB
Between storage devices the most used solid state in the world there is also the Crucial CT500MX500SSD1 500 GB.
What are the most popular hard drives
On the side of the hard diskthe proposals of Seagate are indicated by EaseUS as the most appreciated by users. The following device models stand out:
- ST1000DM010-2EP102 da 1 TB
- ST1000LM035-1RK172 da 1 TB
A wheel follows Toshiba with the 1TB DT01ACA100 model being particularly popular.
In home Western Digitalthe universally most appreciated hard drive, always according to what EaseUS reports, is the WD10EZEX-08WN4A0 WDC unit, also 1 TB large.
The most popular USB removable drives among users
EaseUS closes its “roundup” by presenting a short list of the “most popular” USB drives among users. The most popular portable storage solutions would once again be the branded ones Kingston: in particular, the most successful model is DataTraveler 3.0.
The brand is also very popular Sandisk: in this case the luckiest device is the SanDisk 3.2 Gen1 model. Sandisk Cruzer USB drives also enjoy a really large audience of users.
In another article we have seen how to choose the best USB stick while in another article how safe it is to store data on a USB stick.
The fastest storage drives ever
As the icing on the cake, EaseUS has also composed the list of data storage drives highlighting the best performance. The following two tables indicate what the backup, storage management, and data recovery software company considers 10 best performing units in reading and writing.
In the two lists, as it is easy to imagine, there are only SSD devices and, obviously, all characterized by the use of an interface PCIe NVMe. In another article we have seen how to check if the PC is PCIe NVMe compatible. The units are sorted based on the values shown in the following columns:
- SEQ_R: The corresponding column (Sequential Read) represents the sequential read speed of the SSD drive. Sequential reading refers to the speed of reading data sequentially, such as when copying a large file or playing a video.
- RND_R: is short for (Random Read) is the random read speed of the SSD. The value refers to the speed of reading data located in non-contiguous locations, such as when accessing many small files or data fragments.
- SEQ_W: Indicates the value Sequential Write (sequential writing), with the same meaning seen in the case of read operations.
- RND_W: The value is expressed in the corresponding column Random Write with reference to random, non-sequential write operations.
All performance data in the SEQ_R, RND_R, SEQ_W and RDN_W columns are in MB/s.
