In the crackling hours of CES 2024 in Las Vegas, the presentation of a new device closely linked to artificial intelligence. At this time, however, there is no talk of a potential replacement for the smartphone, but of a gadget that – based on what has been shown – should act as an intermediary between the user and, indeed, the smartphone.

The device in question is called Rabbit R1. Aesthetically it is very pleasant: the body is colourful, square in shape with rounded corners. To give a better idea, it is about half the size of an iPhone and it has something in common with the latter. It is in fact equipped with a cameraof a 2.88 inch touch display and also of a microphone. Looking instead under the body, there is space for 4GB of RAM, 128GB of storage and a chip MediaTek with maximum frequency of 2.3 GHz.

What is the Rabbit R1, the new AI device, for?

As already mentioned, the Rabbit R1 does not aim to retire the smartphone as we know it today. For iPhone and similar devices, a real threat has not yet emerged. But then what is this R1 for and why is it enjoying so much success?

The purpose of the AI ​​gadget is to replace the user as much as possible in interactions with his smartphone. This means that the Rabbit R1 can perform tasks such as web searches, sending messages, reading notifications and so on. Its main strong point, as underlined several times during the presentation, is therefore the ability to interact with applications. And all this it is based precisely on AI: The artificial intelligence that pulses in the Rabbit R1 is trained with user interaction with various applications.

This also means that the device with Rabbit OS (the name of the operating system) can be trained day after day to perform specific tasks that the user usually does. Even a photo editing operation through a precise application.

In addition to the absolutely captivating design (which vaguely resembles that of the Playdate portable console), what has also captured the public’s attention is the prezzo: for the Europen market, the cost is €184.95. However, you have to wait longer than expected to receive it.

As indicated in a post on X published a few hours agothey were pre-ordered in just one day as many as 10,000 units. Delivery, also considering the high demand, is expected between April and May this year.
