As reported by Corvus Threat Intellast November saw a notable surge in attacks ransomware.

After a relatively quiet October, in fact, it seems that the groups of cybercriminali have returned to the charge, recording a record number of victims. The report, published on December 18, 2023, highlighted how Corvus researchers identified data from well 484 new victims published on websites Dark Web.

Numbers in hand, since the beginning of the year a constant increase in victims has been recorded every month, demonstrating how this threat is one of the most fearsome among the many present online.

What determined this “Black November” for ransomware was the return of LockBitwith several cases also recorded in Europe. For researchers, on average, this type of attack alone represents about a quarter of recorded cases.

Another malicious campaign responsible for the increase in November, according to Corvus Threat, is vulnerability CitrixBleedwidely exploited by cybercriminals.

As far as forecasts for the immediate future are concerned, sector experts remain pessimistic: as is easy to imagine, December will probably see a further increase in cases. Apparently, however, there will then be a period of relative tranquility.

In fact, experts say that January It’s a month that cybercriminals usually take as a “break”. Despite this, as with any other type of cyber threat, it is absolutely forbidden to lower your guard.

The return of QakBot and the increasingly intense use ofArtificial intelligence to mislead potential victims, they do not suggest a decline in ransomware actions in the immediate future.

Both in the corporate and domestic context, in addition to the utmost prudence, it is advisable to adopt adequate tools for cyber defense.
