Google, stop the Everest project: no change in tariffs on the Play Store

Google Play Storein recent times, has been a source of headaches for the Mountain View giant.

We’re not just talking about gods 700 million dollars of the recent legal dispute with US users up to the lawsuit with Epic Games. Among the many problems of the digital store of Google also includes the failure of the so-called “Everest project“. But what is it?

According to some documents, this plan was aimed at renewing the Play Store activities, potentially leading Google to optimize the profits derived from the platform.

In broad terms, the project envisaged a new commission system obtained compared to the developers, with a splitting up of the same. Simply put, Google’s intentions included the possibility of asking software producers for a small sum of money at the time of publication on the store, another sum at the time of download and more money at the time of updating the app.

According to some expert calculations, however, the Everest project would have dealt a severe blow to the technological giant, with estimable losses in revenue up to 2 billion dollars.

Project Everest: Google backs down, developers are saved

A business model, therefore, inapplicable on the Play Store, which has been set aside to give developers more breathing space.

As already mentioned, the technology giant has recently been a “regular guest” of the courts. Google, in fact, was sued precisely for issues related to the Play Store, with the American judges ruling that the platform violates the antitrust laws.

The lawsuit, resolved on December 19th, saw the company having to dig into its wallet, reimbursing American users with 700 million dollars. Although this figure may seem enormous, it must be taken into account that the cash flow of this multinational is nothing short of enormous. Suffice it to say that Android alone generates around Google annually 92 billion dollars.
