In Whatsapp it is possible to send not only audio messages, but also video messages without needing to record them first or make a video call
Another new addition to WhatsApp for summer 2023 are the video messages which we can use within chats and groups of friends to quickly communicate something in a video, without necessarily having to start a video call or record a video. Whatsapp video messages work exactly like audio messages and are a new way of communicating via the app.

USE: There have always been video messages in Whatsapp: you can press the camera icon as if to send a photo, then switch to video mode. On the camera screen, press the button with the two arrows to activate the front camera, then hold down the center of the recording button (white circle) with your finger for the time necessary to record the video message. At the end we release our finger and press on Send to leave the video message.
The new way to create video messages However, it is quicker to use, it has a circle frame and, above all, it does not leave the video files in the phone’s memory (and they will therefore not be found in the photo gallery). Furthermore, video messages sent with this method cannot be re-shared outside of Whatsapp, i.e. on other apps.
1) How to make circle video messages on WhatsApp
To create our first video message we open the WhatsApp app on the phone in use, open a group or a chat with a friend or relative, press the microphone button at the bottom right once and, as soon as it appears the icon Video camerapress and hold to create the video message.
A circle with a countdown will appear: at the end of the countdown we start recording our message (always holding down the button Video camera); at the end of the video message just release the button Video camera to send it.
The rest of the button functions Video camera they are identical to the key Microphone (used for voice notes): by swiping to the left during recording we will immediately delete the video, while by swiping upwards we will block the active function (we can record without keeping the button pressed).
The maximum duration for each recorded video message it is 60 seconds; if we need more time it is better to make a video call or record a video with the phone and send it as a video file, as also seen in the guide on how to cut a video on WhatsApp.
2) Video messages don’t work: what to do?
If we don’t see video messages on our WhatsApp we are most likely using an old version of the app on our phone. To solve it immediately, look for the WhatsApp app in the phone store and press the button Update; alternatively we can use the links to Google Play Store e all’Apple App Store to quickly access the app screen.

3) App with video message function included
In addition to WhatsApp we can use other valid apps that include the instant video message function. The best are:
- Telegram: the best alternative to WhatsApp, which has long included the function to send video messages, using the same procedure seen on WhatsApp.
- Facebook Messenger: another widely used app for exchanging messages and video messages with Facebook friends.
- Skype: for many users the first app for making video calls, which has now become a complete messaging app.
- Marco Polo (Android e iPhone): messaging app based exclusively on video messages.
- Google Meet: heir to Google Duo, it allows you to quickly make video calls and send warning video messages to each interlocutor before the call.

Conclusions
Video messages can also be very useful as alternatives to Stories: while the latter are public and accessible to all friends, video messages can be sent in private chats and groups to quickly communicate the date of an event, to send greetings and to quickly notify the interlocutor (also considering the 60 second limit).
