With a detailed press release Apple presented the new generation of one of its reference notebooks. The Cupertino company’s 2024 brings with it the MacBook Air M3more powerful and efficient (thanks to the new processor) but with an identical design to the model with M2.

The MacBook Air M3, available in different configurations and with 13 and 15 inch displayshe’s able to Support two external monitors. One more than the 14-inch MacBook Pro with the same processor. In this regard, there is nothing to worry about: the editorial team of 9to5mac asked Apple for clarification on the matter and it turned out that thanks to an imminent software update, the 14-inch Pro can also be connected to two external monitors.

Double monitor yes, but only when it is closed: the “but” of the new feature of the MacBook Air M3

Returning to the latest addition to the Air range, there is an important clarification to make: the use of two external monitors is permitted, but only when the laptop is closed.

This means that it will not be possible to enjoy three monitors at the same time (two external monitors plus the laptop one) and that, when this “solution for the business user or anyone who needs multiple screens to work in multitasking” is used, it will also be absolutely necessary to have a mouse/trackpad and a keyboard at hand. Because those of the laptop, for obvious reasons, will not be usable.

Apple: the new MacBook Air 13" and 15" are official with the very powerful M3 chip

Nothing that screams scandal, let’s be clear, but as some users have pointed out on social networks, for a machine that in the best configuration it costs almost 2,000 euros (in Europe) more effort could have been made from this point of view.

Speaking of configurations, it has been well received by the community the version with 16GB of unified memory and 512GB of SSD storage. This will certainly be taken into consideration by professionals looking for a versatile and efficient machine at a (relatively) lower cost. For comparison, the Pro with M3 with 16GB of RAM and 1TB of SSD storage (more powerful, of course) costs over 500 euros more.
