WhatsApp introduces video messages: how they work

Not many days have passed since the release of the new WhatsApp Beta on Windows, accessible through the Microsoft Store and containing several new features for screen sharing and message editing, yet there are other new features coming for the Meta messaging service, although in this case we are talking about the mobile world. In the latest WhatsApp Betas for Android and iOS, in fact, The video messages have arrived. Together with voice messages, they will help users to share information quickly with their contacts.

Video messages arrive on WhatsApp

This is a novelty already discovered in the past by testers within the messaging platform, but only today has it arrived more steadily for all those registered in the preview program. To be precise, the feature is available from beta Android 2.23.13.4 e iOS 23.12.0.71. But how does it work?

According to what was reported by colleagues of WABetaInfoand as you can see in the image below, it will appear next to the space dedicated to writing the text message a video camera icon instead of the usual microphone. A simple tap is enough to switch from one mode to another and start recording a video message instead of the classic vocal.

Recording can be done with the front camera, or with the rear camera as needed, and cannot last more than 60 seconds. Naturally, the video message turns out end-to-end encrypted to prevent anyone from viewing its content.

Since this is a much more natural solution than text messages, and even voice messages, many users may prefer it, especially if the discussion is particularly important and requires long explanations. But when will it arrive permanently on WhatsApp? Given that the widespread test has only just begun, most likely the feature will arrive in several weeks. In the worst case, it will take a few months for the development team to refine the video messages.
