Where to look for public information about a person

All online resources to find information about a person, starting from their name, email or telephone number

Finding people The Internet contains an avalanche of information on practically anyone who has used social media at least once or signed up for some online service.

Based on the information in our possession, we can start a search on particular investigation sites, so as to recover some precious information before an important event (a business meeting, an appointment, etc.).

There are several sites to search for information about a person using your first and last name, your telephone number or your email address. Obviously the result cannot always be guaranteed, given that more and more sites hide information for privacy reasons, often making it impossible to recover the precise identity of the person we are looking for.

1) We only know the name

In this part of the guide we will show you how to investigate a person on the Internet starting from their name and surname or a nickname used online. Nicknames are often the same on many sites, increasing the chances of finding information about them.

Google

If we only know the first and last name of the person to search for, we recommend that you start your search from the most famous site in the world, i.e Google.

By entering the first and last name in the search bar, we will see the best consistent results in the foreground, so as to find all the people who respond to that first and last name. Since there will often be so many results, we will have to filter some content by adding, during the search phase, other information in our possession (date of birth, place of birth, place of residence, school, university, nickname and more) , so as to help Google carry out a targeted search on the person we are looking for.

LinkedIn

Another very useful service for finding a person on the Internet starting from their name or, better yet, from their first and last name is LinkedInthe social network based on business and sharing work profiles, where we can really find any person who wants to work in the digital world or who is looking for work in a modern way.

This site allows you to directly search for a person by name and surname, using the page indicated above. Another effective method involves signing up for the service and creating your own network of professional contacts, so as to increase the number of people reached.

Only after having extended our network do we start a search for the name we know or try to enter the circles of the people the person frequents, so as to increase the chances of meeting him.

For further information we can read the guide above how to create a professional profile on Linkedin to get noticed.

Webmii o Peekview

To search for information on a specific person we can carry out a search from the site Webmii.

We enter the name in the field First Name and the surname of the field Last Name, then we press on the search button (shaped like a magnifying glass). In the window that opens, we click on the no of the person who seems most consistent with our research and check the information retrieved from the social networks in which he appears to be registered (in the Facebook, Twitter, Instagram sections).

The site Peekview It’s very similar, but only works for US searches. However, you can search by login name (for example name.surname) or nickname (the fictional name you use in chat or in a forum), to find that person’s profiles on all social networks. Therefore, if you search for a “username” already used in the past or registered on some public forum, we will see the various “traces” left around the Web on the page that appears.

Facebook

Probably the best site to search for people, given that it is highly likely that the subject has an account on the famous blue site. In addition to searching directly on the search bar (at the top), we can carry out a search even without being registered with the service, using the page Facebook people.

We use the search field at the top right, typing the name and surname of the person to search for. If he is present on Facebook, he will appear in the list of matching names and we will be able to access the information shared on the social network (obviously if the person has privacy set to maximum, we will only be able to see the cover image and little else).

To learn more we can read our guide on how See private profiles on Facebook.

2) We only know the phone number

If instead of the name and surname we only have a telephone number, we can search for information on its owner using one of the following services, already reported in the guide on how to find address and name from phone number.

White pages

If the number we are looking for is a fixed number, one of the best places to look is White pages.

The site of the famous Italian telephone directory allows you to search its enormous database for the correspondence of a fixed number, so as to be able to obtain the name and surname of the interested party. Obviously, in order to appear in the list, the person we are looking for must have a landline telephone number and must have given consent to appear in the telephone directory.

Tellows

Tellows it is without a doubt one of the best sites to search for landline and mobile phone numbers.

To use the service, simply enter your name in the appropriate field (present in the center of the site or in the top bar) and click on the button Research.

If the number is present in the database, we will be able to obtain valuable information about its owner, even more so if the number is associated with a commercial activity.

Dive3000

Another very useful service for searching for a person starting from their telephone number is Dive3000.

After logging in (essential to be able to use the service), we will be able to start a search on the telephone number in our possession, so as to try to find information and investigate a specific person.

In addition to access via email and password, the site also allows you to log in with a Facebook account, so as to speed up account creation.

3) We only know the email address

If we only have an email address as starting information, as already explained in another article, we can use the following services to know whose email address it is.

Spokeo

Spokeo allows you to start a search starting from the email address in our possession.

All we have to do is open the specific page of the site (Social tab) and enter the email address, so as to be able to start a search on all existing social networks. If one or more matches are found, we will be shown the social profiles in which the email address is present, so that we can easily trace a person.

Google

If we only have an email and we want to find information and investigate a person, nothing beats the search capabilities of Google.

We type the email address in the search field and click Search with Google: if the address has been made public, all the results associated with it will appear, in particular social networks and forums.

We only have a profile photo or image

If we have a person’s profile photo, a photo taken together or any image in which the person we are looking for is present, it is best to use one of the following sites to track them down online, hoping that they have used similar photos or that they have not changed too much compared to the photo in our possession.

TinEye

The best site we can use to search for people starting from photos is TinEye.

By uploading the photo to this site (just press the button Upload) it is possible to find references to other photos used on social media, find new profile images or associate an already downloaded profile image with a specific site or social network, thus discovering what a person’s name is.

Google Images

Another valid site that we can use to find information starting only from a photo is Google Images.

The famous search engine also allows you to search from images in our possession, using Google Lens for this purpose. To take advantage of this function we open the site, press on the small button Search by image and insert or drag the profile photo or image to use as a reference to find the person, obtaining one precise search for similar photos.

Bing Visual Search

As a valid alternative to the sites seen above we can use Bing Visual Searchoptimized to search for people using artificial intelligence.

To proceed, all we have to do is upload the photo to the site or drag it into it, then wait for the response from the search engine, which will search everywhere on the web for sites, social networks or profiles that contain the indicated photo.

Other similar sites can be found by reading the guide on how to find similar photos and similar images by searching from your own image.

Conclusions

Searching for information on a person and starting your own “investigations” is really simple and above all free! Based on what we know about the person, we can start a search by name, telephone number, email or image, aware that we could also run into a negative result (also because the privacy issue is becoming increasingly popular and it is difficult to find all the information requested).

Precisely in this sense, we recommend that you read our guide on how Protect your privacy on the internet and see what the web knows about us.

If, however, we fear that someone could track us with the information shared on Facebook, we recommend that you read our article on Facebook privacy management: Settings and control.
