The XPS 13 Plus fielded at CES 2022 and, raising the hype for the upcoming XPS 13 2-in-1 “summer”, DELL also took the opportunity to formalize an update of the classic XPS 13 notebook, animated from Windows 11 (Home / Pro) or from Linux (Ubuntu 20.04), already available for purchase in the USA (starting from $ 999) and in Canada.

THE DELL XPS 13 has a precision CNC machined aluminum frame, cadenced in Sky and Umber finishes. Just 13.99 mm thick and weighing just 1.17 kg, it can be easily placed in a backpack for transport: when opened wide, it reveals the 5th generation Infinity Edge display in panel form within very well contained frames on all 4 sides. Resolution 13 ”LCD in FullHD, with 500 nits of brightness and a panoramic ratio of 16:10 ideal for multi-tasking. The webcam, for video calls, lingers at 720p.

Compared to the Plus, the special touchpad and the carbon fiber palm rests disappear. The keys are island and, as for ports, there are two Thunderbolt 4 (with also the Power Delivery and the Display Port with DP and Power Delivery): in the package there are also here the adapter from Type-C to Type-A 3.0 and Type-C to 3.5mm for headphones. On the connectivity side, there is always Bluetooth 5.2 but, compared to the new convertible (Wi-Fi 6E), here we remain with the more common Wi-Fi 6.

According to the company, the DELL XPS 13 ultrabook is able to reach 12 hours of autonomy, thanks to the 51 WHr battery. The merit is also of the efficiency of the new 12th generation Intel processors, in this case of the models of the savings (15 Watt of TDP) U series, here represented by the Core i5-1230U / Core i5-1250U decacores, differentiated albeit slightly in the boost frequency, respectively from 4.4 and 4.7 GHz.

The processing section thus started is then completed with the Iris Xe graphics card, then integrated, and, as for memories, with 8/32 GB of LPDDR5 5200 RAM and with up to 1 TB of PCI-E 4.0 SSD.
