YouTube Premium: reached the milestone of 100 million subscribers

Yesterday YouTube has reached a very important milestone in the context of its long history.

Service YouTube Premiumin fact, has exceeded the threshold of 100 million subscribers. Although it should be noted that the total number of subscriptions also includes trial subscriptions, this is still an appreciable achievement overall.

This shouldn’t be too surprising given that YouTube Premium, in 2023, represented Google’s most profitable subscription service for the tech giant. We are talking about revenue equal to 15 billion dollars last year. An impressive and, in many ways, little predictable achievement nine years ago, when YouTube first introduced paid subscriptions.

Although other services like Netflix (260.8 million subscribers), Spotify (226 million) e Disney Plus (150 million) are still distant, in Mountain View they look to the future of the platform with understandable optimism.

The great success of YouTube Premium: here are the functions that have won over users

On Europen territory YouTube Premium has a cost of 6.99 euros per month for the students, 11,99 euro monthly for individual users e 17,99 euro for families.

The subscription, in addition to removing advertisements, also includes Music Premiumoffer superior quality streaming and allows the local download of contents and the background playback from a mobile platform. A series of functions that, apparently, excite a large number of users leading to the impressive numbers we mentioned previously.

Although subscriptions are a large portion of the revenue generated by YouTube, the classics should not be forgotten advertising which bring additional money to Google’s coffers. Precisely for this reason the platform has waged a tough battle against the systems adblock which, in fact, significantly reduce the range of action of YouTube on the advertising side.
