Cybercrime and Europe: 43 active campaigns in the last week

A research carried out by Computer Emergency Response Team AGID took a sort of snapshot of the cybercrime situation in the Europen context.

Specifically, the researchers analyzed the time window from November 18th to November 24th, identifying well 43 malicious campaigns active in the area. Of these, 38 have demonstrated a clear interest in companies and entities in our country, while the remaining 5 have had resonance on an international territory.

The CERT-AGID analysis highlighted how the banking sector, through phishing e smishingis one of the “hottest” environments from a cybersecurity point of view.

Specifically, numerous cases of malware infection have been reported affecting some malicious agents already known to security experts. Remcosfor example, is one of the most active malicious agents in Europe that exploits theRevenue Agency to spread online.

Also Pikabot, it turned out to be quite active malware. The latter is spread through ZIP archives widespread as email attachments.

Another threat related to cybercrime in Europe is, without a doubt, the infamous AgentTeslawhich is spreading in Europens’ e-mails, passing themselves off as files relating to phantoms contracts o preventive measures. Even malware Furtheralready active in our country for some time, appeared last week with a certain insistence in the emails of potential victims.

The analysis regarding the brands that are victims of cybercriminals in our country is very interesting. In this sense, as expected, the names are quite important and include:

  • Later
  • Aruba
  • UniCredit
  • Intesa Sanpaolo
  • we
  • Bper
  • Zimbr
  • BNL.

As for the file extensions most involved in malware campaigns, there is no particular surprise. The archives (ZIP, 7z e RAR) are major vehicles of malevolent agents, with the EXE which obviously constitute another large portion of the files at risk.
