2023 ends with a detailed report on the possibilities aesthetic changes which could characterize next year’s Apple smartphones. Based on the information received (details on the first pre-production projects, to be precise), the editorial team of MacRumors created renderings showing three different versions of iPhone 16whose code name would be DeLorean.
From the vertically positioned camera to the Capture button: the possible new features of the iPhone 16
The US site, as mentioned, has created three different renderings that translate the information received by the editorial staff. The first (yellow color) is characterized by a photographic module reminiscent of the one seen on the iPhone, that is, with two sensors arranged one above the other inside a single “pill”. The is present Action key (instead of the ring/silent switch), and there’s also a single volume button.
The smartphone with a pink rear body features a rear camera that is identical or almost identical to those seen on the iPhone 11 and iPhone 12. The Action button remains unchanged, while the volume rocker is organized into two buttons.
Il third device, the one in black, is the one with the most changes. Vertically arranged camera aside, this version of the iPhone 16 features a slightly larger Action Button and above all a new new jump button on the right side (looking at it from the front), in the lower part. To give a better idea, it would find a place where the mmWave antenna of the models sold in the United States is today.
It could be the much talked about one Acquisition keyuseful for taking photos and starting video recording with a simple click when the smartphone is positioned horizontally.
The fact that there are three configurations suggests that nothing has yet been decided in Apple’s offices. In any case, at the moment it seems that the most probable model is the thirdthe one with the Capture Button and an Action Button that is a bit large in terms of size (although it could easily be confused with the one for raising the volume).
iPhone 16 camera: the reason for the “return to the past”
With iPhone 15 Pro, Apple has changed the arrangement of the three lenses of the photographic module: the telephoto and the ultra-wide angle have swapped positions. This is a necessary change to allow the recording of 3D spatial videos compatible with the Apple Vision Pro viewer.
The reorganization of the layout of the iPhone 16 camera could be due to the same reason. In the report of MacRumors this hypothesis is not mentioned, but – at the moment – it seems to be the only logical explanation.
