Listen to this article

The first qualifiers of the Red Bull Solo Q 2022 Italy saw Dream Maker and Suru qualify as first and second respectively for the final tournament. Pese (1st place) and Taytsuke (2nd) follow in his footsteps in the second qualifier and join them. There are still four places left that will be filled in these days at the close of the third and fourth qualifiers for which registrations are still open.

In the last article we talked about how to access this event quite thoroughly, so if you are interested, the advice is to take a look at it. In this, however, we will have the point of view of one of the first two Italian players who will participate in the final tournament: Suru.

Suru is a main top who loves aggressive picks. For him it is the second Red Bull Solo Q, the first (in 2021) in which he participated unfortunately without being able to qualify, but this time he reaches the final challenging one of the TOP 8 Italian amateur players of the last tournament: Dream Maker.
Here are the highlights of the “chat”:

You qualified for the final tournament by beating, in the final, against one of the TOP 8 Italians at Red Bull only Q 2021, did you know that? If so, how was it?

I knew this because a friend of mine (Sloyr) had qualified in the last top 8 and had played against it a couple of times, but I lived the final as if it were a friendly since not only had I already qualified, but compared to the previous qualifiers I did not the final was broadcast. I also had accumulated stress in previous matches and so I took advantage of the situation to relax.

Sloyr, as Suru himself says, was among the 8 most promising national talents of Red Bull Solo Q 2021. He is currently part of an e-sports project that sees him as a member of the Apocalypse Esport team (which also includes our Suru ) with Coach Zefi, known for his coaching and explanatory videos on YouTube about the game and its competitive side. Someone will also remember him at the time of the Moba Rog in which he held the role of “Individual Performance Coach” working with people (and receiving compliments) even from well-known Italian pro-players. But let’s get back to the personal questions.

How did you live the qualifier experience?

At first I took it a little lightly, but then passing the first phase and considering the ways in which the last finals were played (in LAN) I took it more seriously. This led to some anxiety that amplified the excitement when I won a round and bitterness when I lost it. I generally don’t like 1v1 too much and prefer to play 5v5 but I enjoyed the tournament anyway.

What he says is more than understandable: the early stages of a tournament like this are easy to underestimate. Maybe a player decides to participate only for whim and then finds himself winning one, two, three games and only at that point, when he sees the possibility of reaching the final, every defeat and every victory weigh more and tend to be experienced in totally different way than the first ones. Another question he kindly asked me to answer was the one about the new patch and how much he could impact the tournament.

When Suru qualified he was still in patch 12.9 so he didn’t live it with the Durability Update (arrived in 12.10) which changes quite a few things in the League of Legends meta.

What do you think of the new patch? How much will it impact the tournament?

I think the basic idea of 12.10 is correct (increase the duration of the fights etc.), but we intervened too quickly and at the moment the game is not very balanced, therefore more frustrating. Despite this I think it will have little impact on the tournament making perhaps a little stronger champions who take advantage of lethal time or in general who prefer prolonged fights (eg. Jax and Darius) and a little less those based on the burst (eg. Pantheon) .

Apparently Suru has already taken his measurements by getting an idea of what the meta will be like. Obviously with these sudden and drastic changes there will be changes in the sample pools of the participating players (and not only) which, thinking about it a little more deeply, only makes the competition even more spicy.

Before closing, however, a special thanks goes to Suru who took the time to answer these questions and to whom we dedicate good luck for the final stages of the Red Bull Solo Q Italy. Ready for the 3rd Qualifier?
