Samsung TV: goodbye to Google Assistant next month

For owners of TV Samsung, some of the most popular products in the sector, bad news is coming. In fact, from March 1st 2024, these devices will no longer support theGoogle Assistant.

The announcement appeared on the FAQ proposed by Samsung websitewith an explanation that refers to a “Google policy change” at the moment very unclear.

Although several options remain for managing such televisions (from Alexa Of Amazon to the voice assistant Bixby of Samsung itself), this is however a significant loss for the Korean manufacturer’s devices. The introduction of Google Assistant on Samsung TVs dates back to 2020 and, regarding the end of support, several rumors had already spread about it over the course of the last year.

Samsung TV and Google Assistant? Both companies appear to have other priorities

Although what is about to happen with Samsung TVs will not influence other manufacturers, many interpret it as a further signal of Google’s intentions to gradually eliminate its voice assistant.

In this regard, the name of Google Assistant seems less and less present in the company’s projects, gradually replaced by Bard the da Gemini. Another sign of these intentions is the recent elimination of the assistant’s functionality, with the Mountain View giant wanting to cut costs with respect to its maintenance.

In general, it seems that the company wants to focus heavily on the aforementioned Gemini, placing its attention on the corporate context. Samsung’s voice assistant, Bixby, for its part does not seem to have a focus onArtificial intelligence and there is the feeling that the Korean giant does not intend to focus too much in this sense.

On the other hand, the brand is working concretely to offer the best possible regarding the functions of AI Galaxy. TVs, in fact, at the moment do not seem to be a priority for either Google or Samsung.
