What are Android security updates and how to get them

We are used to waiting for version updates on Android to be able to test new functions, it is worth knowing that today we receive many more system updates and that many of these are almost invisible, given that they concern the security of the device.

Security updates are very important on Android, as they fix bugs that can be exploited by malware and scam apps to infect the device. There is therefore no need to postpone or reject them.

1) Check for Android security updates

To get Android security updates we open the app Settingsportiamoci in System info -> MIUI version o in Security and privacy (depending on the type of phone in use), we display the menu Android Security Update and check the date next to it.

The date may vary from device to device but, to have an always updated system, It is always best to have 2023 as the reference year, whatever month or day is shown. If we have a phone that shows a security update from 2022 or earlier, we can try following the subsequent chapters of the guide to receive the missing updates.

2) Update the Google Play Store

As a first method to receive security updates on Android we suggest you check that the Google Play Store is updated to the latest version available.

To proceed we open the Google Play Store app, press on Settingslet’s expand the menu Information and we press on Update Play Store to get the latest available version.

3) Check Security Status (Xiaomi)

On Xiaomi phones we can quickly receive security updates via the dedicated menu, present on any recent version of the MIUI operating system (from version 11 onwards).

If we have a Xiaomi phone, all we have to do is open the app Settingspress on the menu Security status and press on Google Play system update; if there are any security updates you will be notified immediately and just press on Reboot now to install them.

4) Update operating system

If none of the previous methods have worked we will necessarily have to try to update the entire operating system also get the latest security updates. To proceed, simply move along the path Settings -> About phone -> MIUI version (about are Update phone o System updatesbased on the phone in use) and download any reported updates.
